Palace - Band at The Wiltern

British rock band Palace emerged in 2012 from London, England. The group began as a quartet comprising members Leo Wyndham, Rupert Turner, Matt Hodges, and Will Dorey. The band dropped their first EP, Lost in the Night, that same year. Performing the local rock circuit in London and beyond, the band’s music, which showcased their alternative and blues roots paired with Oldham’s brooding vocals, has been compared to the likes of indie bands Fleet Foxes, Bon Vier, and Grizzly Bear. The band became a well-known rock band in the local rock scene.

The band performed their first gig in a South London pub. “A part of us thought we might be the shittest band in the world,” Wyndham mentioned in an interview. Luckily, the moment the band started playing, they could see that the audience liked their music. This moment was in 2014. Fast forward to two years later, the band dropped their debut studio album, So Long Forever. Soon enough, the band started receiving wide acclaim from fans, people were checking out their music online, and fans were crowd-surfing during their sets. Moreover, they were asked to support Jamie T on one of his comeback shows.

For a humble quartet who spent their days hanging out and practicing in small studios in Camden, this was the beginning of their rise to prominence. The debut album So Long Forever spawned fan favorites “Live Well,” “Holy Smoke,” and “Bitter.” Both singles have clocked in over 100 million streams across music platforms. In 2017, bassist Dorey left the band to pursue other musical projects.

Palace carried on as a trio two years later and released their sophomore album, Life After. The album spawned the single “Heaven Up There,” which has amassed over 20 million streams on Spotify and 14 million views on Youtube. In the following years, the band released several more EPs Someday, Somewhere, Gravity, Love (Don’t Let Me Down), Fade, and Where Sky Becomes Sea.

Last year, the band dropped their latest album, Shoals, featuring the fan favorite, “Never Said It Was Easy.” This year, the band dropped the new single “All We’ve Ever Wanted” to be featured in their upcoming EP. “‘All We’ve Ever Wanted’ is about dreams and desires,” Wyndham explained. “It’s about wondering if things ever can come to pass exactly as we’ve pictured them in our mind’s eye and confronting the reality that things often don’t move in a predictable straight line. In the end, new growth seems to occur from the soil of the unexpected.”
