Maria Jose is a Latin pop sensation. For years, she has put out music considered among the best in Latin music. She has been in the limelight for decades now, practically growing up making music. She strongly influences the industry, starting with her stardom as a Mexican Latin pop group member and extending to her solo career. Nothing is going to stop her from making music anytime soon. There is still so much to explore in her career. Apart from being a musician, she is a ballet and flamenco dancer, an athlete, and a TV star.
María José Loyola Anaya was born on January 12, 1976, in Mexico City, Mexico. She grew up exposed to music and dance. Her first appearance on TV was when she was 14 as a dancer part of the Spanish Dance Company. A year later, her singing and dancing talent secured her place among the sextet of the now-legendary Mexican pop group Kabah.
In 1994, the group debuted, releasing their eponymous album. It was a massive success in Mexico, propelling them to create more music. In their next release, they hit gold as their album, "La Calle de las Sirenas" broke out internationally. Multiple successful albums followed this breakthrough. However, a decade after being together, they went on a hiatus. Their last album was "El Pop," released that same year.
After a long prosperous career with a group, Maria Jose bit the bullet and worked on her solo career. She would then release six successful albums. Her self-titled debut came out in 2007. It faired well on the Mexican charts but was less successful when she was with Kabah. However, this slight setback did not stop her from continuing her solo career. She returned with a bang with her sophomore "Amante de lo ajeno," which came out in 2009. It reached the second spot on the charts. Ambitious, she immediately followed with another album released in 2010, "Amante de lo Bueno." This album was more successful than her last release, which gave her a chance to top the charts. Her following two albums, "De Noche" (2012) and "Habla Ahora" (2016), retained her mainstream acclaim.
After years of hiatus, the Latin star is back this year with a new album entitled "Libertad." In support of the release, she will be on tour in Mexico and the US. One of her stops is at The Wiltern on Friday, November 24. Book tickets now!
