Shintaro Sakamoto is an international phenomenon. He is almost surreal. He is unpredictable and versatile. He is groovy, funky, jazzy, psychedelic, and slightly out of the box. He is a musical magician, a poet and a highly talented performer. The only thing better than Shintaro Sakamoto, is Shintaro Sakamoto, backed by his accomplished band, live on stage.
The Japanese composer, producer, writer, and singer, hailing from Tokyo, exploded onto the music scene as the founding member and frontman of the Japanese underground psychedelic rock band Yura Yura Teikoku in 1989. In the 21 years of their existence, they released 21 albums in total. After the band’s breakup, Shintaro Sakamoto embarked on a solo journey, dropping his solo debut album, “How To Live With A Phantom”, in 2012. The album signaled a significant departure from his regular rock persona into something softer, mellower, and with a slightly groovier sound. His second solo LP, “Let’s Dance Raw”, dropped in 2014, vibrant and infectious to the core. The album massively leaned into his work in psychedelic rock and funk, with a blend of global influences. Shintaro Sakamoto has released four albums since going solo, including the latest, the 2022 “Like A Fable”.
Shintaro Sakamoto Band will be supported by special guest, soul musician Bobby Oroza, hailing all the way from Finland. Audiences are in for a special treat with his unique interpretations of soul music, with hits such as “Goddess” and “My Place, My Time”.
The Wiltern is ready to become transcendent, complete with glimmering disco balls and a slight psychedelic touch! The venue can host between 1,200 and 4,000 patrons with seating spread over five levels, including a mezzanine area with two rear bars. Whether you choose a seat closer to the action or a bird’s-eye view, you are guaranteed a good seat and an incredible, unique and mind-blowing experience!
With all of that being said, the question remains: is Shintaro Sakamoto an indie artist? Is he alternative? Is he into funk and soft rock, or is it smooth jazz with touches of psychedelia? Is his genre world music, tropicália or salsa?
And the answer – just sit back and enjoy the greatness of art personified! Bring all your friends along for a most exciting experience that will have you talking about it long afterwards!
