The Wiltern
One of the questions that the uninitiated have about Masayoshi Takanaka is whether or not he sings in his tracks. That was something that he went on to answer back in the 80s when he released an album that, in fact, included his voice on the record. However, apart from that album, he's been a figure like Carlos Santana in the West. In the sense that he's been able to craft a career virtually around his guitar talent alone. One of the reasons, though, that he's generated such a broad fan base is the type of music that he plays. Although there are some jazzy tunes that he leans into sometimes, most of his work revolves around tropical music.
Don't be surprised if, on Monday, March 10th, at The Wiltern, there's someone standing next to some bongos toward the back of the stage while Masayoshi Takanaka is at the front on his guitar in a Hawaiian shirt. In fact, the Santana comparison is ironic because Takanaka's music features a ton of Latin beats! That may seem odd for a Japanese performer, but keep in mind that there's a tight bond between Japan and Brazil. When you hear Masayoshi Takanaka you might feel like you're at the carnaval in Rio! The 70+ year-old Masayoshi Takanaka is still going strong, bringing his good vibes and joyful beats to the masses. In 2025, though, his only confirmed stops in the US are these two shows at The Wiltern. Over the years, he has also not made a habit of visiting the States consistently. If you're a fan, this is a must-see event because you just never know if he'll come around again!
The Wiltern is going to be turned into a lounge for you to vibe along with the tropical beats that Masayoshi Takanaka will be putting forward. Most of the venue will feature standing room only. You'll have the option to choose between three main sections. If you want to catch a glimpse of the legend up close, get your spots in the pit area. Remember that this is the last confirmed US concert in 2025 for Masayoshi Takanaka. Click the get tickets button now if you don't want to miss it!
