Bruce Dickinson, the legendary voice of Iron Maiden, has had one wild ride! Born in Worksop, Nottinghamshire in 1958, he didn’t exactly come from a musical background. He grew up in a working-class family and was sent off to boarding school, where he discovered rock music and got hooked on bands like Deep Purple and Led Zeplin. That passion led him to join a few bands early on, including Samson, where he started getting noticed for his powerful voice and insane stage presence.
Everything changed in 1981 when he joined Iron Maiden. His first album with the band, “The Number of the Beast” was a game changer, it launched them into global fame and made Bruce Dickinson a metal icon. His unique voice, which is full of power and range, mixed with his love for history, mythology and big ideas that helped shape Iron Maidens epic sound. Over the years he became just as famous for his energetic performances as he is for his deep thoughtful lyrics.
Bruce has never been just about his music, he is also a licenced pilot, an author, a fencer and a beer brewer. Somehow whilst doing all of this he also managed to release solo albums that also show a different side of his creativity. His latest solo project, The Mandrake Project, dropped in 2024, and it is something special. Its not just an album, it’s a full-blown multimedia experience with a graphic novel series to go along with it. The music blends metal with orchestral and electronic vibes and the story dives into themes like immortality, science and the occult. Bruce Dickinson has said it is one of his most personal and freeing projects yet, and it really shows a different side of his creativity.
