The Wiltern
Just an FYI, they’re turning back the clock at the Wiltern, and it’s gonna be epic! Big Daddy Kane and friends are headed to the iconic LA venue to put on a show on Friday the 26th of July 2024. Who are these friends that he’s promising will join him on stage on that Friday?
EPMD is one of the opening acts on the night. They’ve been through more break-ups and reunions than you, and you know who, but you don’t want to say. Thankfully, they realized the music they can make together is better than anything they can do apart. They’ll bring some old-town hip-hop as well. This is an act that’s been around since the late 80s.
Keith Washington’s going to be performing on the night as well! If you were a fan of General Hospital, you’re going to remember the theme Kissing You. Keith’s bringing some much-appreciated soul to the night. He’ll put you in another dimension before the hip-hop fully takes over.
Michel'le is going to start out the night with “Something in My Heart!” This show’s going to cater to a wide array of people. Nostalgia’s going to be in the air the entire night. The change from R&B/Soul to pure hip-hop is going to be an interesting one.
Whichever artist you want to see the most is irrelevant. What you need to do is hit that get tickets button to ensure you’ll be at the Wiltern on Friday, July 26th.
It’s one thing to call yourself one of the best MCs the world has ever seen; it’s another thing to have your peers say it. If you take a look at most of the lists ever published that rank the best rappers in history, Big Daddy Kane is in all of them. In fact, he’s likely in the top 10. Ice-T once said of Big Daddy Kane that he could put him up against any rapper that’s ever walked the earth.
If that contest is about how fast a rapper can deliver his lyrics, Big Daddy Kane is right up there with the best of them. He actually started out his career doing a lot more behind-the-scenes work writing for other rappers. That just goes to show his mastery of the genre. He’s not just amazing in front of the mic; he’s got the brains to back it up.
When the opening beats to “Ain’t No Half-Steppin” start playing at the Wiltern it’s going to feel like you’ve stepped back in time, no lie. Plus, this talk about Big Daddy Kane being fast on the mic is not from the past at all. He can still spit lyrics with the best of them. That’s one of the coolest things about the whole show. Every performer that’s going to be on stage emits that old-school vibe. Even the R&B acts that are going to be on stage are from the old guard. Each of them, though, can still hold their own. That’s why this night at The Wiltern is one that you can’t miss. There’s no telling when a collection of talent like this is going to be on stage together anywhere. Hip-hop and R&B aren’t getting stars like these growing on trees.
Speaking of the Wiltern, what can you expect from this iconic venue on that night? Right next to the stage is obviously the place to be if you want to see the performers and their expressions and the show up close and personal. On some of the upper levels near the bar area, you can have a more laid-back night. These spots are better for larger groups that are there to enjoy the show without wanting to be mobbed. Any place in the house has great acoustics and views of the stage, so no worries there. Just hit the get tickets button to make sure you get the seats you need.
