Las Leonas

Girl power with an uplifting roar is the best way to describe what’s coming to The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. One of the most popular plays in the Mexican theater circuit, Las Leonas, will be live at the venue on Wilshire Blvd on Thursday, September 19th, 2024. Since the start of the project, one of the things that stood out was the all-star cast that the play featured. The current assemble that will be embarking on this US tour, includes: Victoria Ruffo, Angélica Aragón, Ana Patricia Rojo, Paola Rojas, María Patricia Castañeda, Dulce and Lupita Jones. Each of them have been successful in their own right, either as actresses or singers. There’s, of course, the unique case of news anchor Paola Rojas, who’s the wild card of the bunch.

There are going to be no spoilers here for anyone who hasn’t seen the play yet and will be doing so for the first time at The Wiltern on September 19th. In general terms, though, it follows seven women with different life stories. As the play unfolds, the audience is going to have a chance to learn a bit more about each of the characters. Most of the “action” happens around dialogues that these women have together. The central theme of the play is women's empowerment. It can also apply to anyone in the theater that night, in the sense that they have a chance to get their life together, regardless of the circumstances that they’ve been through. The moral of the story is one that’s been celebrated everywhere that these ladies have taken the play.

It may be obvious at this point, but it’s important to highlight the fact that the entire show will be in Spanish. The play is going to be put on scene just like it’s been touring across Mexico. It’s really the interaction between the actors that’s worth the watch. Victoria Ruffo’s going to be on stage, so knowing that there’s always a chance that she’ll cry or slap someone across the face, like in her “novelas.” Kidding aside, there are also plenty of emotional scenes in the Las Leonas story. You can be sure that you and your partners on the night are going to be leaving The Wiltern feeling like you’ve been entertained. At the same time, with a good sense in your heart from that fighter’s mentality that’s woven into the story. It’s a win-win, no matter how you want to look at it!

Only five floors from The Wiltern have been made available for this night. With fewer capacity may come an influx in demand. If you want to watch Las Leonas live, you may need to make the decision quickly. The good thing about all of this is that you see the stage perfectly from anywhere in the house.
