The Wiltern
The last of the Catskill comedians is taking over The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 20th. If you have a soft spot for Jewish jokes, this is the show for you. Modi is bringing his Pause For Laughter, live tour to LA on this Thursday. He's one of the very few contemporary and mainstream comedians who've mostly remained "committed" to entertainment around Jewish culture. That's why the New York Times has referred to him as the Jackie Mason of modern comedy.
As mentioned, this show's going to be taking place on Thursday, March 20th, for obvious reasons. Modi might be keen to work on Shabbat, but his main audience would not be able to attend! Of course, you don't have to share Modi's faith to enjoy the show, but you might have a hard time getting a lot of the inside jokes. In any case, if you're at The Wiltern on Thursday, March 20th, you're going to be in for quite an interesting comedy night. Hit the get tickets button to find your seats.
One of the coolest elements about these Modi shows is that he's kind of got a card that allows him to say anything he wants. Dave Chappelle said in one of his recent specials, when the transgender community was attacking him, that it was the Jews he didn't want to offend. To perhaps no one's surprise, folks are not too offended when one of their own is making the criticism. Since Modi is both Jewish and gay, there aren't too many topics that he has to avoid. This makes for a fun night every single time that he steps out on stage.
In a lot of his previous work, he's done extensive bits on Jewish culture, with some history lessons mixed in for good measure. This means that you have to be on your toes to catch everything that he's saying. The man is able to craft some of the most layered jokes in the business. To the point where if you re-watch a lot of his material, you'll find yourself laughing at elements of the show that you may have missed the first time around. You might not have a chance to catch this "Pause For Laughter" show twice, at least not live, so you better be wide awake come Thursday, March 20th. That way, you won't miss any of the minor details that, many times, are much funnier than the punch line in his jokes.
The entire Wiltern Theater is going to be open for this event. If you want to spot all the way in the back at the Mezzanine area, you are going to want to be quick about making a purchase. That's where you'll find the cheapest tickets, and ... there's no reason to continue this joke. Modi might have a license to say whatever he wants about Jewish culture, but that privilege doesn't extend very far! No matter where you want to be this night at The Wiltern, hit that get tickets button soon to find your seats. You don't want to miss one of the more entertaining shows coming to LA this Spring.
