Maia, or professionally known as “mxmtoon”, is heading back to the road. Carrying a suitcase packed with confessional tracks inspired by turmoil and growth over the past two years, the singer is ready to share her “Liminal Space”. Following her “Rising” LP back in 2022, she’s unraveling moments in life that she “failed to keep up with”. Known for her confessional and emotional bedroom pop anthems, get ready to cry an ocean of tears as her new album comes out November 1st. Following its much-awaited release, mxmtoon is hitting the road for a global tour.
Giving fans a glimpse of the tales she’ll uncover through “i hate texas” and “the situation”, it’s bound to be an emotional bangin’ record. “How do you cope with life-altering change? Maybe you let yourself stew in the mess of emotions it elicits. Maybe you make an album about it called liminal space…” she wrote in a letter ahead of the album’s release.
“In the turmoil of the last two years since my second record, I’ve felt suspended in a transitory landscape that often at times felt endless… So, suspended in the unknown I wrote these songs. I tried to unravel how I’ve chosen to fulfill the roles I’ve been given in my own life and at times how I’ve failed to keep up with them.”
We’re definitely ready to cry a river. As she takes over the stage at The Wiltern, LA’s hottest concert venue is getting itself prepped up to host a night where Maia’s fans are surely gonna sing along and shed a tear. Raise your phone’s flashlight and wave those hands as the night takes everyone on an emotional ride. The venue’s comfortable seating and majestic architecture is a perfect match for mxmtoon’s intimate concerts. Praise by NPR for her “endearingly intimate presence,” Maia’s artistry is a rare gem in today’s music.
As her personal songwriting dives into new depths, get your tissues ready as the album arrives on November 1st. With relatable and reflective tracks that got fans hooked, Briana Younger of The New Yorker perfectly describes what we all feel with her music — “She sang of routine high-school problems, such as crippling self-doubt and unrequited love, with an emotional sophistication that reminded us that there are some things we never outgrow.”
Her new song “the situation” dives in to expectations of your life when you reach your twenties, feeling that this is supposed to be you hottest era before you slide down the rabbit hole from your peak. “Society as a whole really pushes the narrative that women reach a peak and then slide down for the rest of their lives… and that’s just stupid. ‘the situation’ was the perfect opportunity to make fun of how dumb that is,” she shared.
