The Wiltern
The Princess Bride is a romantic movie released, in 1987, and has become a bit of a cult movie classic. The Princess Bride - An Inconceivable Evening with Cary Elwes comes to The Wiltern on Saturday, July 15th, 2023. This event is in the format of viewing the film, followed by none other, than our dashing hero of the film, Cary Elwes. He will spend some time highlighting some of the sometimes funny, sometimes scary and behind-the-scenes anecdotes and stories There will be a Q&A session.
The story takes place in the fantasy world of Florin, through the often comical and sometimes, heart-wrenching adventures of Westley and Buttercup. Such an adventure of this sort, would not be without its princess, some pirates, a folk healer and maybe some giants. The Princess Bride has, since 1987, still pulls at the heart strings of everyone who watches it. It is therefore no surprise that the movie fans still want to experience this amazing love story, and to hear, first hand, from the hero of the film himself, Cary Elwes. Cary has had a long career with other striking and different movie roles. In this movie, his role as Westley, and the dreaded Pirate, Roberts, some of his lines, such as ‘as you wish’ and ‘inconceivable!’, have become immortalized in the world of cinematography.
The Princess Bride is a movie, released in 1987, and is an American fantasy adventure. The movie was adapted by William Goldman from his 1973 novel of the same name. It tells the story of a young farmhand, named Wesley, turned swashbuckling pirate. He is accompanied on his adventures, by companions befriended along the way. There is André the Giant. Wesley must rescue his true love, Princess Buttercup, from the odious Prince Humperdinck.
The film manages to preserve the novel's narrative style, by presenting the story as a book, being read by a grandfather to his sick grandson. The movie was well received by critics at the time, and initially achieved a modest success at the box office. It has, over time, become somewhat of a cult film, and has been considered as one of the best films of the 1980s. Cary Elwes starred in the main role and in appeared in supporting roles in the movie.

He is known for his leading film roles as Westley in The Princess Bride, and as the owner of a castle in A Castle for Christmas. His film career spans from 1979 to date, and he made his first television appearance in 1996. He is known to be a versatile actor, with the ability to switch effortlessly between dramatic and comedic roles. He has inspired countless young actors with his work and has earned the respect of his peers in the industry.
Cary has also worked as a writer and a producer on a number of projects. He co-wrote and starred in the movie, “As You Wish: The Story of The Princess Bride”. This is a documentary about the making of the film, The Princess Bride. His writing career has spawned several books, including a memoir entitled “As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride.” You will notice that these two phrases, coincidentally, appear numerously throughout the movie.
